2. Number one was brought about by peer pressure ensued by Jennifer Lynn Dorso.
3. I absolutely despise all lunch meats.
One of the fads currently lighting the world up via.... facebook... is telling your life story through 25 Random Facts about yourself that you believe people will deem interesting, witty, or funny.
4. I have a fanatic obsession with the teenage soap opera, The OC.
5. I call some of my mother's friends my best friends.
6. I call my mom during school to make her to check online sample sales for me. And after that, Jenny uses my phone and does the same thing.
I must admit that I was one to jump on the random fact bandwagon, but at the same time, why has it become so large of a craze? Why must everyone and their grandmother tell all of their friends that they were scared of the dark until the age of 20? Or that one likes to dance alone in the living room?
7. I check the Sartorialist and Garance Dore every day when I get home from school.
8. I work at a bakery, so I eat masses of donuts every day of my life.
9. No, I am not a legal midget. I am 5'2'' and proud.
Jason Tanz, the senior editor of Wired, said "[25 Random Things] is a socially acceptable way to tell people what you’ve been up to without seeming totally obnoxious." I agree, but why are we telling acquaintances our life story, anyway? Thanks to facebook, the world has been reconnected with the random person they met on the street 5 years ago on New Years, and people that have similar traits and talents from all over the universe. Including aliens. So by participating in a survery like 25 Random things, you are letting all of those random people get to know you without actually having a heart to heart with you.
10. My grandmother, mother, brother, father, and my grandmother's friend all have a facebook. I am only friends with my Grandmother's friend.
Yes, I did do the 25 random facts, but at the same time, I don't really like why. 25 Random Things is used so people can portray their best and quirkiest personality traits so that other people will find them to be funnier or more likeable. These facts are not for the sake of keeping your friends up to date, but rather to project yourself in a manner that people find pleasing.
11. I eat more food that the average human being should.
The article was interesting, but what was refreshing about it was that since its subject matter was light, the article was written lightly and infused with humor. For instance, every few paragraphs the author would interject a random fact about someone, that would lighten up the content and really make it obvious that it was intended to be a light read.

When I saw that almost half of my friends were tagging me in these notes that said "zomgz 25 things" or "25 things you don't know about me" I was confused and a little aprehensive, not knowing what I would find out about these people I call my friends! Some were quite funny and interesting, while the rest were unoriginal or things that I already knew about them. I feel like these kinds of things are so Myspace, you know, writing the survey and posting it and having all of your friends see your answers. I never really felt the need to do anything like that, and I'm still holding strong when it comes to 25 things. I feel like when it comes to those types of survey's and releasing information about yourself, you have to really dig deep and find things that you seriously haven't told anyone, and I'm pretty much an open book, or I like my secrets kept with me.
Don't get me wrong, it looks fun and a good reliever of boredom, but I don't feel compelled to sit down and think deeply about things that are basically irrelivant to me, or in this case about me.
p.s.
1. My mom has a facebook and she forced me to become friends with me. She sends me inboxes randomly telling me how much she loves me.
haha That's about as far as I will get in one of those 25 random facts surveys. (:
When i say this headline i knew exactly what you were talking about. I agree with "nwat" i also had tons of random notes being tagged to me. My homepage was dominated by them. And with that being said, I also did the 25 random things. I found it fun to do, but the most interesting thing was when some people would comment saying "this is dumb", a week later they ended up doing it because everyone was doing it. I feel though Jason is right, your not having a heart to heart with the person, so it telling a random person about you.
Fact 1 - Bianca's music on her blog scares me every time. I always forget it is coming from your page and i panic to find where the music is coming from.
Bianca! This article made me laugh so hard, and when i first saw the headline, just like Kate, I knew exactly what you were talking about. Since '25 random things', I've been getting tagged in a lot more surveys on facebook. It's kind of annoying. Why can't people just tell us 25 random things straight up? Why does it have to be something we all do to jump on the bandwagon?
I think that they are kinda fun to read regardless of the writers intention because you may find out some interesting things IF they did write it honestly. But, I do think it tells you a lot about yourself when whil you are doing it. For some people, its really hard to come up with 25 things. For others its apiece of cake. I myself did "40 things" and I thought it was really easy. Someone was like (it may have been you :]) "well aren't you self absorbed". And this actually made me stop and think, why was it so easy to come up with 40 things?? Am I self absorbed?? But I think it is just because I didn't sit there and try to make them funny or portray myself differently. I wrote the true things that came to mind. I think its so much more interesting to read what people actually think about themselves than to read fluff. It makes the time filler facebook note not totally pointless.
